Like any boat, a yacht is called a she because, as the poem says, “there is always a great deal of bustle around her; there is usually a gang of men about; she has a waist and stays.”
Although the desire to own a yacht is often connected to the freedom of movement she provides, an ever changing and more and more complex regulation unfortunately leaves little place to improvisation.
